Connie Milstein Company Helping Meals-on-Wheels

Friday, 1. April 2011 4:52

The cookies that you buy today just might help someone else to have a hot meal tomorrow.  That’s because Connie Milstein and Connie’s Bakery and General Store donate 100% of their after-tax profits from the store to six charitable non-profits.  They do so with the Foundation of Sweet Success and they select different organizations each year to receive the donations.

This year, Meals-on-Wheels of White Plains is one of the recipients of the Foundation Sweet Success money. They are a non-profit organization that delivers food and companionship to people who might otherwise be alone and hungry all day.

Their services are available for anyone living in the city of White Plains who can’t shop for meals for themselves or who can’t prepare their own meals.  This is regardless of age or income.  They accept referrals from all sorts of locations including doctors, hospitals, social workers, family and more.

Their volunteers deliver two nutritious meals, planned by a professional dietician, a day to homebound individuals.

Blue Star Families is an organization started by and dedicated to supporting the families of men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces.  Since its founding in 2008, BSF has been active in raising awareness among the general population about the kinds of sacrifices military families make for their loved ones and for their country, while at the same time providing special activities, information and support to help those families get through those more challenging moments.

As a longtime supporter of military families, Connie Milstein became a member of the board of directors of BSF and participates in many activities that bring pride and joy to the families of military personnel.  One such event, which is pictured here, was a dinner reception honoring military families at the elegant Georgetown home of Connie Milstein, in March, 2010.

The Humpty Dumpty Institute, with co-founder Connie Milstein, is an organization with many programs. One of them is The Global Creative Forum, who recently brought representatives from three U.N. projects to Hollywood, California with hopes of exposing famous film and television writers and producers to the problems and efforts of the U.N. Writers from famous shows such as Law and Order, Burn Notice and Private Practice were present at the event.

The event began with an introduction by Bill Rouhana, chairman of HDI and GCF, who was followed by U.N. Assistant Secretary General Robert Orr and Juan Carlos Brandt of the U.N. Department for Public Information. The first speaker was Elizabeth Jennings, who works for the World Food Program in Haiti. She described the flexibility of the Haitians when they are faced with the disasters of earthquakes, hunger and cholera. Jennings was followed by Olivier Mukarji from the United Nations Department of Peace Keeping in Darfur, Sudan. He explained how the U.N. works to save refugees from Darfur as well as to negotiate an end to the conflict between the political parties in Sudan. Gary Lewis of the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime in Thailand spoke of the efforts being put into stopping the human and drug trafficking in the region.

Connie’s Bakery and General Store

Friday, 5. March 2010 4:50

Brownie_HeartsIn an innovative and fun way to help people, Connie Milstein founded Connie’s Bakery and General Store. At Connie’s every purchase is in support of charitable organizations because all profits are donated to a variety of causes which directly help people in the community.

Located in Mt. Kisco, New York, Connie’s Bakery also helps in other ways. All the ingredients are fresh, and whenever possible are supplied by local businesses in order to support them and encourage their development. There is also an apprenticeship program which trains people to become master pastry chefs, in many cases giving employment to people who might not have had any other chance to work.

Connie Milstein often donates her baked goods to other organizations which are helping people, such as the brownies which were recently distributed at a family event to show love and support to military families sponsored by the Blue Star Families organization.

Connie’s Bakery is an innovative and tasty way to help. Go visit, you’ll be glad you did.
